On the next blank page in your sketchbook, use a pencil only and use the below image as your guide.
You will be continuing the use of this same inspirational image on Thursday. Oh, and if you are wondering who that is, it's Weegee.

Daily Sketchbook 1/27
This is day two (!!!) of me giving you 12-15 minutes to work on something that you will turn in for a study drawing next week.
Please use your time wisely and remember that you will not have class time on the 31st to finish any of your images (and we will have a different drawing to work on that day for the daily sketchbook anyway).

Daily Sketchbook 1/25
If you have looked ahead at your study drawings for the first two months of this semester, you'll notice that at the end of Feb they happen on a less than ideal date. I want you to be ready. That may involve getting a little ahead-ish on the ones for January.
Note, when the 31st rolls around you may not use class time to finish any part of your study drawings. The ONLY thing that should be happening is you putting them in your portfolio page(s) for turning them in.
I mention the above as a few of you took advantage of this last semester. Please do not do this.
So for today...use the first 12-15 minutes of class time to work on a study drawing that you will be turning in on 1/31.

At some point we'll be done with these studies, but for now, do the same full page and pencil only work for me while you enjoy the process.

You didn't think I'd let us get that far into the semester without a Mindful Moment did you? Get set up and get your peers ready as well. I'm ready to go when you are. Smile!

Art 1's re: barn painting
I'm finished with grading your watercolor barn landscape painting.
No, there is no rubric. For most of you there isn't even any commentary on Canvas (but for some of you there is so pls check that).
I did, however, make quite a few comments by hand on the yellow follow up sheet from class today.
There were some pretty big disparities between the source image/video and some of your paintings. This isn't completely unusual since watercolor is sometimes difficult to control.
At the same time it is hard to go back and adjust/fix after the fact.
For this reason, if you are unhappy with your score, please use your own time to recreate this painting on a page from your sketchbook and I will happily re-grade you with no late penalty by the end of next week. If you choose to take advantage of this, please make sure to turn in your original painting and the new painting both at the same time.
Additionally, we did this painting as an 8x10 image and you should do the same if you re-paint your project. You can measure this size out yourself or get a template from me during tutorial.
After you read your yellow sheet, let me know if you have further questions.
Cheers.

Daily Sketchbook 1/12
We continue this week with a continuation of studies in your sketchbook.
Use one of the below images to begin reproducing in pencil only as best you can in 13 minutes. Upload a photo of your entire sketchbook page when time is up.

Oh yeah, with the below image, focus on the bottom two rows, not the top and super simplified row.

Daily Sketchbook 1/10
It's a week of studies. Well, I only get to see you in class twice each of these first two weeks this semester because of a holiday next week...so let's get started.
Use one of the following two images as your example, and begin replicating the images you see. Use ONLY a pencil and use an entire page in your sketchbook.

Bonus For The Beginning
Welcome back for second semester everyone! As usual I need to use some of my "break" to get ready for the upcoming semester, so here I am on my fourth hour of work typing this treat for you.
You know you have a daily sketchbook due every day there is school, but just like last semester, you will not have to begin this in earnest until I have you in class the first time - which is tomorrow.
However, if you would like to do a daily sketchbook for today, and upload it today (not tomorrow before class), I will credit you for one extra day of work. I know, two points isn't a lot, but it isn't a bad foot to get off on, now is it?!
One last note, please make sure to read the directions on the assignment in Canvas. I want you to photograph your sketchbook pages in a specific way, and while this hasn't changed from last semester, I will be more diligent in paying attention to your presentation this semester.
Cheers!
