Daily Sketchbook 3/27

For the last week of March, if you are not actively engaging in your self-directed project - which we will talk more about, I want you to work on the below image.

Starving blackbirds 'eating chicks and mice' due to dry weather

Please begin by drawing the outline ONLY of the above blackbird.
Next I want you to work on the negative space around the bird.
What can you do to make it visually interesting?
What object(s) or pattern or use of shape or use of color or...will make it interesting?

Is it something geometric? Is it something organic? Is it a combination?
I would ask that you do not do a tree branch. I would ask that you experiment.

Since you'll have two days to work on this, what can you do that is visually appealing?

As an alternative, you may use the slightly different view from below if you like.

Daily Sketchbook 9/20

Remember that bird you began drawing in ink last week?
Go back to that page and spend some time adding watercolor to it some how to make it look better/more interesting/more complete.
Don't forget to photograph the entire page when you are done (without a shadow) and upload it!

Alternatively, you may continue inking if you don't feel like you got as far as you would have liked. Please just spend at least 13 min. working on this.

Daily Sketchbook 9/14

It's been a while for some ink for most of you, so that's what today is about. Please get out your small pen and ink, and draw the below bird on the next available page in your sketchbook.
Are you brave enough to go straight to ink without pencil? This is doable, but it takes focus and patience. Though you'll be surprised how much you can get done in 15 focused minutes.
Please don't do anything else on this page as I plan to have you loop back to it at some point.

Please do not use any pen besides the small dip pen in your supply tub. No microns, etc.

Daily Sketchbook 5/2 & 5/4

If it was me I would grab my pen and ink and go straight to it, but that's just me. No pencil needed.
Below you will find your inspiration for the week. You may use one or both of the images but your task is to make something interesting with the below inspiration.

Daily Sketchbook 2/27

Please draw one of the below images.

Or, for double extra enthusiastic adoration, find a way to incorporate both objects into the same drawing. Use only pencil today.

Visual Update April 14

I took just a few photos in class yesterday so you can see what some of the process looks like.

Daily Sketchbook 2/5

I love instagram, but you probably already knew that. While I don't post as many pictures of class/work as I used to, I'm still using it on the daily and finding awesome things all the time.
Your task for the day is to choose one of the below photographs as your inspiration and point of beginning/departure.
Have fun!

Daily Sketchbook 1/13

It's another digital art/drawing day for the daily sketchbook.
Please move your chair up to the front corner of the room near the ipad cart (or the tv, we'll see), get an ipad, and wait for me to put the image up for you to draw.
You will be using the same program as on Monday, so maybe you get the same ipad? IDK, just an idea.
I'll time you and tell you when it is time to upload.
Have fun!

For those of you absent today, below is the image everyone drew from.
