Daily Sketchbook 12/13

Draw an...

open book, like one from HERE.

and a

banana peel, like one from HERE

in some interesting way. Use only pencil.

Don't be afraid to include multiples of something to make it as interesting as possible.

Daily Sketchbook 11/1

It's been a while, I know.
You should have a page with your watercolor wash or your "hatch" marks on it. On top of this you should have a drawing in pencil.
Here's what I want you do, get one of my uni-ball pens if you don't have one of your own (Art 3's, just follow the lead of the Art 4's), and continue on that drawing by going over what you have in pencil, adding to it, and/or shading.
Just make it look great again ;)

Daily Sketchbook 9/7

With a pencil, go outside and draw a tree as accurately as possible.
Please walk quickly and time yourself for 11 minutes with your ipad.
Please don't go far so that you can maximize your class time.
Have fun.
Smile.

Daily Sketchbook 5/27

This is the end.
For now.
I want you, for your last daily sketchbook of the year, to grab a pencil and draw. From observation for at least 20 solid minutes (but maybe more).
I won't have that much cleaning for you to do today, but I will have some. I'm looking for quantity today, so give me that. Your time may be fragmented as you help me, but that doesn't mean you can't get that in as a minimum amount of time.
And smile. Always smile. Art is fun.

Daily Sketchbook 5/25

Take a uniball pen.
Draw something you are looking forward to about this summer.
Do not draw it out first in pencil.
Do not reference a photo.
Draw from memory/personal knowledge.
Go.

Daily Sketchbook 4/29

Here is the full image from what you have worked on from two previous class periods. As before, PENCIL ONLY. Begin making the image more complete. In terms of the background you may choose to include the bench they are sitting on, or you may choose to create a different surface.
Do not do any shading in the background other than a sitting surface.
I want you to concern yourself more with getting them drawn and shaded well.
Also, as before, use the ipad only for utilizing the photo reference.

Daily Sketchbook 4/25

Here is the image for the right hand side of the double page spread you began last time.
Remember, PENCIL ONLY.
You will not "finish" this today - and are not expected to. You are expected to get the proportions down and to do a great job overall though.
Also, ONLY USE AN IPAD FOR REFERENCING THE PHOTO. So if you are reading this on your phone, walk over and get an ipad please. Prop it up on your desk for reference.

Daily Sketchbook 4/21

This is your image inspiration to draw IN PENCIL ONLY today.
Begin by designating the next blank double page spread with this guy on the left hand side page. Draw him as realistically as possible. Do not expect to completely finish.
We will be working on this image and double page spread for multiple days so DO NOT draw anything else on these two pages.
Remember, pencil only. Also, ONLY USE AN IPAD FOR REFERENCING THE PHOTO. So if you are reading this on your phone, walk over and get an ipad please. Prop it up on your desk for reference.

Daily Sketchbook 2/5

I love instagram, but you probably already knew that. While I don't post as many pictures of class/work as I used to, I'm still using it on the daily and finding awesome things all the time.
Your task for the day is to choose one of the below photographs as your inspiration and point of beginning/departure.
Have fun!

Daily Sketchbook 2/1

It's a Mindful Moment kind of day. I will start us once the desks are clear and the room is silent. Thank you for expediting this process.

Daily Sketchbook 1/28

Today you have, basically, the same directions as on Tuesday. Go to he same place in the library and continue on your drawing. Make it more accurate and more detailed while drawing for the same amount of time and being back within the same amount of time.
Again I will be looking for quantity and quality.
Have fun. Go.

Daily Sketchbook 1/26

Lets continue that whole drawing from observation thing from last week. Your task is this, QUICKLY walk to the library and position yourself at a table away from a computer. Begin drawing your environment.
Are there people there? Are there tables? Are there bookshelves or the circulation desk?
Draw all of that. Be as specific as you can. But make sure to block in a full composition before you worry about details.
Set your timer and draw for 14 minutes. I will be looking for how productive you are.
You should have his read, get to the library, draw, and be back within 22 minutes of the bell ringing. Some of you are great about getting started right away, but some of you are still challenged with your efficiency. Go!

Daily Sketchbook 1/15

It's been a digital drawing week, so I'd like for you to go get an ipad to finish your daily sketchbook for today.
Please also get a mirror.
Draw a self portrait, as accurately as possible, using the same app as earlier this week*. When you are at the end of fifteen minutes, save your image and upload it to Canvas.

Happy Friday!

*If you do not have Procreate on the ipad you pick, use something like Sketchbook (Express?) or some similar app.

Daily Sketchbook 1/13

It's another digital art/drawing day for the daily sketchbook.
Please move your chair up to the front corner of the room near the ipad cart (or the tv, we'll see), get an ipad, and wait for me to put the image up for you to draw.
You will be using the same program as on Monday, so maybe you get the same ipad? IDK, just an idea.
I'll time you and tell you when it is time to upload.
Have fun!

For those of you absent today, below is the image everyone drew from.

Daily Sketchbook 1/7

I want you to go back to the pencil drawing that you began on Tuesday, 1/5, and continue the drawing. You should continue working in pencil with the same objects arranged in front of you. Today you will probably get to shading, and will of course pay attention to highlights and contrast and things like that.
I want you to begin this semester with a relatively easy and low key drawing assignment to get back in the swing of things and get your arm/mind moving.

Good morning!

Daily Sketchbook 1/5

Pull out the contents of your backpack or purse.
Ok, ok, it doesn't have to be everything, but you should have at least five to seven items there.
Please don't be too un-fun and take "easy" things like a stack of books out. Keys and pens and cool stuff that is challenging is way better.
Set them on your table and draw them in pencil to create a composition on your page.

If you came to class with nothing - or just not enough - share items with your neighbor. Put your things together and have both of you work from the same thing.

Please make sure you have all of the same stuff here on Thursday as we will be using it again then.

Oh, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
