Daily Sketchbook 10/4

FIRST, before anything else, upload your independent practice drawing from procreate now as after our daily sketchbook the ipads will be going down to the digi photo class for the day.*

If your are an Art 4:
As I said in a message to you, many of you did not get me your thumbnail ideas on time during Monday's class. Instead of the previously set up d.s. topic that the Art 3's are doing I want you to do the following:
On the next available page in your sketchbook begin drawing out a more full version of what you want to do for your painting. We will be sharing these ideas out with others after the d.s. today. It doesn't need to be highly detailed, but it needs to be specific enough that we know what is going on.
Since you have more room with one image for the page vs 4 thumbnails on the one page, we should have a much better idea of your composition, foreground and background, proportions of objects, etc.



If you are an Art 3:
With a pen, draw a plant. Use only lines. No shading. From memory and/or imagination. You'll need to simplify. Do not look anything up online. Do not look at photo references of any kind. Draw until I ask you to stop. Style and quantity are up to you. Get started right away. Don't think too much. Please do not talk to your neighbors while you focus on this activity.

Daily Sketchbook 4/24

I'm actually going to give you the daily sketchbook topic(s) for the WEEK.
I know, you're excited. Me too.
You have study drawings due on the 28th, so I am giving you three days to work on these as your daily sketchbook. You have today, 4/24, as well as the next two classes - on the 26th and 28th to get these done.
It is very likely that you will be finished before you come to class on the 28th. While you are still needing to photograph each finished piece to turn in for the s.d. assignment, please give me a photograph of the the process on the 28th.
This could be your labels before you tape them in place. It could be the page itself right before you turn it in.
If you are even ahead of this, you get a few free minutes, but you need to give me something for a photo to show your study drawings on the 28th.

I'm tired as I type this. If it doesn't make sense, please let me know.

Everyone needs to have everything off of their desk except their ipad.
I need one volunteer from each table to meet me at my desk.
Once I notice everything is off of your desk tops and I have my volunteers I will get us started.

Daily Sketchbook 3/28

Remember that this is a "free" week of daily sketchbook entries. Below is what I was going to give to you, but if you would rather do something else - or not do one at all so you have more project time - that is up to you.
Each day of school this week is worth 2 e.c. pts. One upload per day. Just so you don't forget the rules.


You have two more amazing study drawings due on the 30th, so this is your 2nd opportunity to use some class time to make your ideas come to life.
Don't forget to upload a process photo when your 15 min is up.

This is a familiar day, but with a twist.

Do the following two things for me.
1) Please come get a 3x5 card from me
2) Put your name on the top line of the card
3) Complete the request that I am going to give you
4) When we are finished writing we will have a short Mindful Moment

Daily Sketchbook 3/22

That paper airplane you folded the other day...please get that out.
Please also get out your sketchbook and a pen.
You should do one of two things at this point.

Option One: Pile all the planes from your table up together and draw this.
Option Two: Take just your paper plane and draw a blind contour (in pen) of it many times, and of various sizes on a page in your sketchbook.

Please again gently save your plane and we will use it again on Friday.

Daily Sketchbook 3/20

Welcome to another week of wonderful!
Today is a little different, and this week you will be asked to work on the same thing for multiple days, so please pay close attention to all directions.

Step One: Get a piece of printer paper.
NOT drawing paper, but printer paper. There should be a stack under the tv near the front door

Step Two: follow the directions from one of the following two photos.

Step Three: Please make sure your name is visible on your wonderful creation.

Step Four: Photograph your wonderful creation on your desk or the counter with nothing else in the frame.

Step Five: Gently place your wonderful creation in your tote box so that it is is pristine condition for next time.
Remember when you are putting your painting supplies away at the end of class that you want this plane to be in good shape for Wed.

Step Six: You are finished for your daily sketchbook. Begin painting.
Oh, and smile.

Daily Sketchbook 3/14

Please continue adding color/texture/value/etc. to your self portrait from last week.

If you have "finished" this somehow, what else can you add to the composition? A random bird or wooden sign? An armadillo?
Can you get more ink in it? I mean, it's hard to have too much stipple. When was the last time you did a great stipple drawing anyway?
Make it more complete and more interesting please.
This is just another example/exercise of being able to make something interesting with but short bursts of time that ultimately add up to make something better and more interesting.

Note: Thursday will be a day for you to get some study drawing time in, so come ready to work on a new idea!

Daily Sketchbook 3/9

That funny face from 3/7? Keep working on that. Yes, you should have a mirror out again. Do you need to finish the initial with ink?
Can you begin adding some values with hatch? Or stipple? Maybe you can make the hair amazing with fill-in?
If you are "done" with ink, begin adding color please.

Daily Sketchbook 3/1

We will use our time as a continuation of what you began on Monday. You should be at a point where you are shading your object, so how much further can you get on that? Do you begin adding color with colored pencil or watercolor? Or do you do some inking/shading?

Also, the objects you had to choose from were not by accident. We spent all day on Monday thinking about symbolism and metaphor, and both of those objects are things you have dealt with in your English classes in the past. A mockingbird and a conch shell. Ring a bell?
Both of those objects mean different things to different cultures, but you should have had conversations about what they represent from texts you have read in the past.

Once the 15 min mark gets here today I will give the next directions, but I know you'll need to have your sketchbook and pencil and ipad out. Please make sure everything else is off of your desk.

Get your watercolors out and get the best and most interesting colors and techniques you can get in 13 minutes on your sandcastle drawing from a few class periods ago.
Don't forget about textures!

Please walk quickly and time yourself for 11 minutes with your ipad.
Please don't go far so that you can maximize your class time.

For today, use one of the below hand drawn type examples to create a phrase of your own. Don't think too hard on the phrase, if something doesn't easily come to you, just do your name.

Get the type to look as much like the example as possible and be as consistent as possible.
