Daily Sketchbook Excerpts

There is a lot of good that comes out of the daily sketchbook, and I see a lot more than most do since I am the once looking at each photo online to "grade" them. Today was a day when a lot of that goodness was happening on the third day of working on the same page.
In my view it is/was a good way to take something that is already in existence but make it personal by having a "random" background.
Here are some of the in-process images from this morning.
Enjoy.

More Art to Look At

It's one of those random things that I'm not really sure where it came from, but that's part of the beauty of the interwebs. Maybe it was from Booooooooom, I'm not sure, but I've recently come across the artist David Slone.
He uses some color in some interesting ways so I thought I would pass it along to you. Search around his site and I think you'll find some color and paint use within his portraits that you find kind of cool. Well, maybe. Check it out.

Studio502 Update

We've gone through the stencils and the grisaille painting for Art 2's, and are on to bigger and longer term oil paintings for all of the advanced levels.
In Art 1 we are beginning our first forays with color, and will begin truly brainstorming what we will create with our first painting over the next couple of class periods.
Below are just a few photos of some of the things we have been up to. I hope to have a quickly edited video soon, so stay tuned...just don't hold your breath. Please.

Did Someone Say Mural?

Well, it happened today. Paint got on the wall that is.
What a day to begin, too, what with the heat and all. I know one thing, I am exhausted.

If you come by the school you will see a very loud and crazy "painting" so far. Trust me, it's a long way from being finished.
Remember, it is a work in progress.

If you want to follow along on the interwebs in places other than just here, look for tags such as #lghsart and #studio502
Having said all of that, the above pic was taken today. Just a very small peek into what happened.

Oh, and the raffle winners have been drawn.
Congratulations to: Sharon Pratt, Hans Candries, and Lucy Kain.

They will get their custom paintings within the next couple of months. More on that to come.
