I'm taking today's challenge from a version of p. 88 of Tanner Christensen's book, The Creativity Challenge.

Your Challenge:
Spend up to 13 minutes thinking about why clocks look the way they do and drawing your best alternative to modern-day clocks.

World's Largest Doodles

I ran across this recently and thought it super creative and clever. The "drawings" aren't awesome, but they are all at the same time.
What I most love is that this is an ongoing process and idea and that the creativity this takes is, I would say, pretty high.
I mean look at this...

Vans Custom Culture 2016

Once again I have the templates for the Vans Custom Culture competition in my hot little hands. If you want to see some ways other school have interpreted the four themes Vans assigns each year you can click HERE.

The final designs on the shoes aren't due for a while, but I would love to have a group of you super amazing students start brainstorming now. I'll find a way to make it work for some assignment substitutions however I can, so let's talk if you are even remotely interested.

Daily Sketchbook 1/20

I have a book at home by Tom Kelley and David Kelley with the following paragraph that I can't help but share.

Please read it and let it sink in. 

"With creative confidence comes the desire to proactively guide the course of your life, or organization, rather than be carried along on the prevailing winds. Roger Martin, dean of the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, once told us hat what stuck out to him about designers is that they always act with intention. While others may unconsciously go with the default option, design thinkers make everything a conscious and original choice: from how they arrange their bookshelf to how they present their work. When they look around the world, they see opportunities to do things better and have a desire to change them. Once you start creating things, whether it's laying out a new garden or starting a new company or writing a new piece of code, you start to realize that everything has that intention behind it. Everything in modern society is the result of a collection of decisions made by someone. Why shouldn't that someone be you?"

After reading this passage I want you to open up to a new page in your sketchbook and create a large-ish shape on the page. Within that shape, creatively and uniquely copy the above quote. When you are finished, photograph this quote and submit that for today's daily sketchbook.

Logo Opportunity from the District

As you know, I was contacted by the district office for a reboot of our logo - which they rightly feel is a little out of date.
What ideas do you have?
Put them down on paper (don't worry about any text needing to be perfect) and get them to be by the middle of May and we'll see if your design gets chosen to be used by the district for the next however many years.

Here is a copy of our current logo. Time to make it better.
Oh, it doesn't have to include mountains and all of the same text. Think different.

Excerpt from "Creative Confidence"

Senior T-Shirt Design

Seniors, this is your chance to get your ideas from head to paper to t-shirt...and have bragging rights.

Designs are due on 9/24 in room L5.
Please specify if it is a design for the front or back of the shirt, and if you have questions I do not have answers so ask someone in leadership.

Ready, set, GO.

t-shirt design opportunity

The annual LG vs Saratoga football game is coming up and the Leadership class has asked you awesome folks for some ideas.

Here is what I know:

• the t-shirt will be black (which will be one of your colors, obviously)
• you can use up to three colors (black will be a "fourth" color)
• the designs have to be turned in by 9/18 - that is next week :(
• judging will be on 9/19
• you can write and/or draw just about anything you want
• you can draw the design out on printer paper or art paper or the computer or whatever, but simple 8.5 x 11" printer paper is more than fine (not bigger, por favor)

Did I mention everyone at the game will be wearing your design? Pretty rad.

Did I also mention that designs are due BY the 18th?

LG Design

A quick overview that will pertain to the advanced art students and the next project (for the student store here at school):

• Think about what article you would like to conceptualize an idea for (t-shirt, sweatshirt, hat, etc)
• generate many (MANY) sketches in your sketchbook (more than five)
• think of text/typography, theme, "wildcat", etc
• is there a "theme"
• vaguely be aware of color (aim for a 2 color design, knowing that a 3rd color is, or can be, the garment color
• you can be funny/humorous
• think about what you would like to wear yourself (while it can be funny, it needs to be a "legitimate" design)
